Birmingham Police have arrested a man on suspicion of fraud following reports of a bogus charity collector operating in Small Heath.

The 44-year-old was arrested on Wednesday, 17 September, following calls from members of the public concerned about a man seen collecting money on Coventry Road for charitable causes in Palestine.

Sergeant Dan Popple said: “The man was released on police bail while our inquiries continue but we remain keen to hear from any members of the public who may have seen someone collecting money in the Small Heath and Sparkhill areas of the city in dubious circumstances.

“We would particularly like to hear from anyone who feels they could have given money to an unregistered charity, or to a collector without the appropriate licence.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
