Rohid Zamani a 16 year old refugee who escaped the explosive horrors from his birth country Afghanistan with his family has won a £30,000 scholarship which is seen as one of world’s most prestigious public schools Eton Collage; former students include Prime Minister David Cameron and Prince William and Harry amongst other world leader’s sons and royalty.
The bursary to Eton College is a step up for the young Afghani who currently attends Sirius Academy in Hull, East Yorks.
He said: “Hopefully everything I want in life will be a little bit easier. I am going to make the best of it either way.”
Rohid has had to learn English since arriving in the UK; he left his native Afghanistan with his parents when he was only three.
He said: “I remember my mum told me we were in the market place and this guy had styled his hair put gel on it and he was dragged out in the street and al-Qaida chopped his head off. “There were people getting killed for almost no reason. Every day we were afraid.”
Rohid’s father made the wise decision to flee the terrors of al-Qaida and find a better life for him and his family, it seems the move to the UK has seen success. However family almost didn’t make it.
