Unity FM Birmingham joined forces with one of the UK’s leading
international medical distribution and treatment charities, The Ansar
Trust Worldwide, on Friday 8th August 2014 and raised over £30000 to
build Jabalia City’s first ever free, charity clinic in the northern
part of Gaza.
The clinic will contain 3 specialist wards which will provide urgent pediatric treatment for traumatised Gazan children both of a physical and psychological nature, a high quality dental clinic and a maternal clinic to help Mothers before and after the birth of their babies.
The construction of this historic life changing clinic which will
serve over 6500 families comes only weeks after Gaza has been made
victim to constant bombing which has resulted in over 2000 people
killed over 500 of whom were innocent children, over 10000 people
seriously injured 3000 of whom were young children.
Jabalia city where this clinic is being built is the most bombed part of Gaza and contains the largest number of refugees compared to any other part of
the highly populated Gaza strip.
Dr Wleed Haq, Chairman of the Ansar Trust Worldwide said: “We were
over whelmed by the generosity of the people of Birmingham especially
immediately after the blessed month of Ramadhan when people gave
millions Masha Allah to our brothers and sisters in Palestine, it just
goes to show that our love for Gaza and it’s great people is limitless
and that the people of Birmingham will continue to rise up and be
counted for as long as humanitarian aid is needed Insha Allah.”
Ahmad Bostan, Unity FM’s Deputy Station Manager who hosted the appeal
added: “There were times during the appeal where we thought we would
struggle to get the funds required but by Allah SWT’s limitless grace
we not only reached our target but also exceeded it Alhumdililah,
allowing us to start the building of this life saving clinic straight
away.”
On Unity FM this Ramadan over half a million pounds was raised by
various charities for Palestine.
When asked why Unity FM management
decided to go forth and sacrifice their own annual appeal which
usually generates much needed funds for the station itself, Tas
Hussain Head Of Programming explained that he felt that despite Unity
FM’s large running costs, in light of the humanitarian travesty in
Gaza, it was far more important this year to instead commit to
building this amazing clinic: “It’s simple, as a Father of a young
baby myself my heart cried out for those young children in Gaza who were killed, injured and disfigured in front of my very own eyes, and
myself, Ahmad and the rest of our team really wanted to do far more
than we had already done during the glorious month of Ramadan and we
were honoured to team up with our brothers from the Ansar Trust
Worldwide who’s trustees are medical proffessionals themselves, to
send a long lasting message of love to our children in the blessed
land of Al Masjid Al Aqsa.”
Dr Wleed Haq, Chairman of the Ansar Trust Worldwide stated in
conclusion: “We are really pleased that this clinic which was a dream
for many of us, has now become a living, beautiful reality for the
children and mothers of Jabalia City in Gaza, our future plans are to
expand the clinic Insha Allah so we can serve more families who
desperately need our help and we hope that the good people of
Birmingham will support us in our noble objectives Insha Allah.”
