Those who love their horror films to be squeamishly gory will be let down by the latest buzz surrounding upcoming flick Ghost.
The film, which has been branded as Bollywood’s most violent movie of all time, has been butchered down by Indian censors.
The Central Board of Film Certification made several cuts, much to the annoyance of director Puja Jatinder Bedi, who was left fuming when one important scene was taken out.
She told reporters, “The censor board cut one of the most important scenes in my film.
“It’s a scene where the ghost gets crucified like Jesus Christ. The scene was very pivotal for the screenplay.”
J.P Singh, the censor board’s regional officer at Mumbai told theHindustannewspaper that the scene is still intact, but has been reduced to water down the brutality.
“That scene is still there in the film. Only its length has been shortened to reduce the impact of the extreme brutality shown on a girl,” he said.
“The examining committee has given five – six cuts. All of them were extremely brutal. There was a scene showing a dead body’s legs being cut. Another excessively violent scene showed a girl being beaten for a very long time by many people.”
According to reports, the scene was also cut down so as not to offend Christian and women.
Puja said, “The censor board felt that the crucifixion would hurt religious sentiments of the Christian community. Also, the brutality was being perpetrated on a woman,” she added.
The film stars the controversial Shiney Ahuja, who was jailed for seven years in March last year for raping a domestic assistant.
