‘The Centre’ is the brand new album by Sami Yusuf, the 34 year old British singer, composer, producer and accomplished musician who is one of the most popular Muslim stars in the world. His first two albums sold 15 million copies between them and earned him a massive global audience, uniting fans of all creeds via his music, spiritual devotion and message of love and peace.
Sami’s self-coined genre for his music is ‘Spiritique'; incorporating both Middle Eastern and Western harmonics and underpinned by spirituality, it is an all-encompassing and all-inclusive sound, utilising music as a facilitator for spiritual appreciation, regardless of race and religion.
Sami draws huge crowds wherever he performs, and has headlined at London’s Wembley Arena at a charity event that saw millions of pounds raised for the Darfur relief effort. The Guardian newspaper has called him ‘the most famous British Muslim in the world’ and Time magazine has acclaimed him as ‘Islam’s biggest rock star’. Recognising his influence as a role model, Sami has helped to raise money for many charitable concerns, including the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).
On ‘The Centre’, Sami presents a deeply touching, devotional music, which impressively combines Arabic influences with state-of-the-art ‘Western’ production values. Composed, arranged, produced and almost entirely self-performed by Sami, his new songs are rousing, the melodies catchy and deeply moving and all captivate with the inherent power of spirituality.Tied together by a journey of spiritual discovery, they are rich in multicultural influences, having drawn from traditional as well as contemporary Middle Eastern, North African, and European poetry, instrumentation, and melodies. Despite the newness in sound, the message of the album is perennial. Perhaps the first of its kind, ‘The Centre’ is bound to capture the hearts of those seeking the timeless truths and values of unity, compassion and faithfulness in a more beautiful language.
Sami will perform an exclusive showcase for‘The Centre’at the iconic Cadogan Hall venue in London on 16th September, an event that also coincides with his new appointment as a Global Ambassador AgaInst Hunger for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).
