WMPFC are set to compete against the Aston Villa stars of yesteryear at a local charity fundraiser this weekend.
A host of ex-villains will be taking on the force’s finest to raise money for the construction of a new cancer ward at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
The all-star matchup was arranged by officers from Birmingham South LPU after the young son of fellow player and colleague PC Tom Hemmings was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of muscle cancer.
Olly, three, is currently receiving specialist treatment at the hospital and as a show of support for the youngster his family have been raising money for the new ward.
The match will kick off at 2pm this Sunday, 7 September, at Tally Ho Sports and Social Centre, Pershore Road, Edgbaston, B5 7RN.
In addition to the game, a small auction will take place for various items of sporting memorabilia.
WMPFC club secretary DC Tom Cunningham-Smith said: “The Birmingham Children’s Hospital is a charity that is very close to the hearts of not only our team, but people across the West Midlands, and the new cancer ward would be an invaluable addition to the treatment of this terrible disease.
“With this in mind, I hope that people will be able to find the time to pop down and support this fantastic cause. It should be a really enjoyable game, and what better way for football fans to get their footy fix during the international break?”
Entry to the game will be £5 for adults and £1 for children, payable on the day. Parking is available on site and light refreshments will also be available to purchase from the bar.
