A Birmingham magistrate and his former partner have been jailed for the murder of a two –year-old girl, who died of septic shock after being forced under a scalding hot shower.
Rashpal Chana and the Kristiana Logina’s mother, Eva Logina, both from Smethwich, were convicted of manslaughter.
Mr Chana, aged 49, was jailed for four and a half years, while Ms Logina’s sentence was six years.
The stepfather, who served as a JP for almost 20 years, showed little emotion as the sentence was read out.
Ms Logina, aged 26, was also found guilty of child cruelty between February 2009 and in the same month of last year.
Although he was not present when the incident happened, Mr Chana was charged with manslaughter by lapse after the toddler died at Birmingham Children’s Hospital in February 2010.
Kristiana suffered severe burns to 20 per cent of her body and suffered serious pain over ten to 12 days.
According to Roger Thomas, who was defending, Ms Logina had a complicated past and suffered from depression.
