Birmingham Student given the go-ahead to make film based on Stephen King story

ABirminghamfilm-maker has been given the go-ahead to turn one of Stephen King’s stories into a short film, by none other than the author himself.

Ranjeet Singh Marwa has signed a contract with the internationally-acclaimed writer to write the screenplay to 1977 short story The Man Who Loved Flowers, as well as to direct it.

The 23-year-old film and animation student plans to raise about £1,000 for the project after gaining permission from King’s publicist.

Mr Marwa, who is studying atBirminghamCityUniversity, will start filming around Edgbaston sometime this month.

He told reporters, “I think it’ll take around four days to do as the film won’t be any longer than 20 minutes.

“I’ll have to send it to Stephen King for approval once it’s done, but I’m a big fan of his so this is a dream come true for me.”

The Man Who Loved Flowers follows the story of a love-sick young man, who buys flowers for a woman in an alleyway.

But as he approached her, he reaches for a hammer in his pocket and finishes with a gruesome finale.

Mr Marwa has also filmed a four-minute film called the Beginning, which was inspired by the horror flick Saw.

The short film, which was filmed near Millennium Point in October, has been nominated for an award in the horror category at the London Independent Film Festival.

The former Lordswood Boys’ School hopes that his screen adaptation of the King story can be shown in the city.
