The multi-agency EEID program supports multidisciplinary research on the ecological, evolutionary, and social drivers that influence the transmission dynamics of infectious diseases. The call for proposals is led by the US National Science Foundation (NSF) and this year partners from the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) supported by the Fund for International Collaboration, include the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) lead for UKRI partners; the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC), the Medical Research Council (MRC), and the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). International partners include National Institutes of Health (NIH); the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA); United States- Israel Binational Science Foundation; National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).
The central theme of submitted projects must be the quantitative or computational understanding of pathogen transmission dynamics. The intent is discovery of principles of infectious disease transmission and testing mathematical or computational models that elucidate infectious disease systems. Proposals require to include both US and UK investigators. Projects should be broad, transdisciplinary efforts that focus on the determinants and interactions of transmission among humans, non-human animals, and/or plants.
The call is now open and the deadline for applications is 20th November 20, 2019.
The UK funded element must be no more than 36 months in duration.
