Pakistani Actress, Meesha Shafi, who has starred in films such as, The Reluctant Fundamentalist, has claimed that music sensation Ali Zafar has sexually harassed her.
However, Ali Zafar has denied these allegations, and he has taken legal action. The rumoured allegations have caused a huge stir on social media, as many women have also opened up about their views on sexual harassment.
Meesha Shafi reported these allegations on Twitter and said that there were “some issues that are very difficult to speak about as a woman, especially sexual harassment.”
“My conscience does not allow me to be silent anymore,” she said. “If this can happen to someone like me, an established artist, then it can happen to any young woman, and that concerns me gravely.”
She added that she had suffered sexual harassment from Ali Zafar ‘‘on more than one occasion.”
“Ali is someone I have known for many years and someone who I have shared the stage with,” she said. “I feel betrayed by his behaviour and his attitude.”
However, Ali responded back with the allegations and had stated that:
: “I categorically deny any and all claims of harassment lodged against me by Ms Shafi. I intend to take this through the courts of law.”
He added that he was “deeply aware and in support of the global #MeToo movement and what it stands for”.
“I have nothing to hide,” he said. “Silent is absolutely not an option.”
Meesha Shafi’s name is currently trending on Twitter and her allegations against Mr Zafar, has caused a stir on Pakistani social media.
