July is the month when the schools reopen in India, it is also the month of festivities and the month when Salman Khan’s fans all over the world wait for his film. They would not be left high and dry as Salman Khan is coming as BAJRANGEE BHAIJAAN spreading the message of humanity and goodwill. A month in which a film of Salman Khan releases, means that other films may find it difficult to survive, but as a writer it indeed is the moral duty to highlight the offers of the month in detail. And Salman is having a competition with Ajay Dvgun this month folks. So here we go.
BAHUBALI: The USP of BAHUBALI lies in the fact that it will be the costliest film as far as incorporating the element of VFX in a film is concerned and it has beaten KRISSH and HNY for this component. According to the trade grapevine the film has spent Rs. 75 crore for VFX alone. Directed by SS Rajmouli of MAKHKHI fame, BAHUBALI is a period film and it stars Prabhas, Anushka Shetty and Rana Daggubati in lead roles, apart from Ramya Krishnan, Nasser, Sathyaraj and Sudeep in supporting roles. Obviously it has been made with Telugu and Tamil audience in mind, but factoring in the stupendous success that MAKKHI achieved when it was dubbed in Hindi and released, it must have dawned on the director that technology indeed could be his trump card in making his next film. It being a film with a story line of medieval era, VFX indeed would add flavour to the spice. Hollywood has been practicing with this genre with the profuse sprinkling of technology and folks in India also seem to have realised that technology indeed could be their gateway to success at box office. If BAHUBALI succeeds, indeed it should inspire other filmmakers to use the genre of VFX to make period films focusing on rich historical traditions of India. Period films also would find a big favour with Diaspora for sure as well.
2. BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN: It is Eid time and it is Sallu Bhai’s film which has to hit the box office. Kabir Khan joins hands with Salman Khan once again after stupendous success of EK THA TIGER and Salman Khan is paired opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan in this supposed magnum opus. The Le Le Selfie song of the film has already become a raging hit and with the controversy surrounding Salman Khan’s arrest and subsequent release, his fans from all over are going to share their support for their Bhai by perhaps making it the biggest hit of the year so far. BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN is also going to underline the spirit that Salman Khan projects and promotes- BEING HUMAN-as this film is about a journey, a journey that BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN makes to the neighboring country so that a girl who has come to this side of the border can find her home.
3. BANGISTAN: After the phenomenal success of DIL DHADKNE DO, the producer duo of Farhan Akhtar and Riteish Sidhwani return to produce BANGISTAN where for a change Farhan Akhtar is not acting in the film. The leads of the film are Riteish Deshmukh, Pulkit Samrat and Jacqueline Fernandez. It is a comedy film and after a really long time Ritesh Deshmukh returns in the lead role. He had a fantastic success last summer as a villain in EK VILLAIN. BANGISTAN also marks return of Chandan Roy Sanyal of KAMINEE fame as well, who gets to enact seven different getups for this film.
4. Directed by Nishikant Kamath of MUMBAI MERI JAAN fame, DRISHYAM stars Ajay Devgun and Shriya Saran in lead roles with Tabu and RajatKapoor being the other main stars for the film. It has been produced by Kumar Mangat, Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, DRISHYAM is the story of Ajay Devgn’s character getting embroiled in a murder mystery, wherein it becomes difficult to fathom whether he is guilty or innocent and Tabbu plays the character which has definite shades of grey picking off from where she left in HYDER. It would be interesting to watch how the chemistry now pans out as Tabu and Ajay Devgun have been lead pair in yore in the films like VIJAYPATH, TAKSHAK and HAQEEQAT and it is after 16 years that they get united again and sparks are surely going to fly.
