Harry Grewal of Wolverhampton organised a 16 team knockout tournament in which the winners received a prize money sum of £200 and the runners up £800, alongside various other bonus awards such as hitting consecutive sixes, biggest six and most wickets and runs throughout the day.
The tournament took place at Pleck Park in Walsall and an entertainment filled days cricket with boundaries galore came to an end when Willers from Birmingham beat the hosts of the tournament Grewal Cricket Club. The Man of the Match award went to a deserving Zaheer Sulaiman who hit 70 runs in just 23 deliveries. Aside to an abundance of boundaries, Mr Grewal kindly had on offer a plentiful of trophies for various categories. To help him with the presentation ceremony the chief guest for the day was local councillor Mr Marshall who was full of praise for Harry ‘a special thanks must go to Harry today for successfully running such a big tournament with a huge crowd’.
Following the presentation Grewal announced that the next year’s tournament would include a rise in the prize money for the winners to £3000 and this went down very well with the crowd who chanted his name gloriously. He continued to thank all those that took part, the guests that made the atmosphere electric and used the opportunity to also announce an indoor tournament along the same lines of prize money and bonuses for a wide range of more categories.
