Everyman Cinema- Review

By Priti Modi

Everyman-Cinema-3Nestled away within Birmingham’s Luxe Mailbox setting is Everyman Cinema, the latest independent chain has received a warm welcome and fits in perfectly within its new surroundings. Boasting screens with 96 – 141 capacity, 3d, Sony 4k digital technology which promises to offer viewers everything from national main stream releases to live events and curated themed film.
What’s so special about this place? I went along to find out and what I experienced was second to none. The key theme to this place was the attention to detail and the aim to submerse the viewer into an affluent polished and bespoke cinematic experience. Waiter service, gourmet food (where else can you purchase anti pasti platters and sundaes?) spacious seating with ample leg room and an actual elevated wooden table attached to the velvet covered seats. The bar serves a multitude of drinks including champagne and local / regional beverages, accompaniments such as wasabi nuts are also available again adding to that comforting yet above average feel.

Everyman Cinema is already well established in London and the North, and soon to be opening in Canary Wharf and Harrogate, which I think shows it’s doing more than ok at the moment. Prices start from £10 for an adult ticket off peak and go up to £12.50 for most evening shows. Children can also indulge with their prices starting from £5 – £9.00. The cinema offers special annual membership offers and if one so desires, the screens can be hired out for private viewings and events. From what I have seen, the Everyman tries to offer topical films for special occasions too such as Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day and my host and Manager for the evening Ammie Stowell was extremely welcoming, ensuring I was treated like a VIP from start to finish.

I found the staff to be happy and knowledgeable, never too busy to help and their use of iPADS to take orders made me feel part of the futuristic vibe. The cinema has a dedicated bar and restaurant area where people can just relax and catch up over a pizza or their signature “spelburger.” I found the price of popcorn reasonable in view of what was on offer (£3.00 – £5.00) and the options for vegetarian customers was great too. I was advised that tickets can be purchased online and also at the cinema, but it’s best to book early to avoid disappointment.

The screen at my viewing was so highly pigmented and seemed to wrap itself around the wall making viewing pleasurable and in depth. It was extremely clean and spaced out and the best part of all…. the sofas, you would find it hard to not fall asleep as the temperature (unlike most cinemas) was just perfect.

If it’s high end quality you are looking for in a cinema, an indulgent date venue or simply a beautiful place to catch the best on screen action, I would recommend this gem of a venue, 100 per cent thumbs up from me- I plan to revisit in the near future. Everyman Cinema Birmingham has long needed some- where like this and where better than in the heart of exuberance, the newly refurbished Mailbox.
