The vault at a temple inIndia’s Kerela state will remain closed until its treasure is fully documented, the Supreme Court said.
The six vaults at the Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple contain an enormous collection of jewels, gold and silver, all worth millions of dollars.
Five of the vaults have been opened, with all the contents counted and named.
But the last vault is kept shut, as officials digitally count and name the contents inside, the court said.
According to reports, the court accepted all suggestions from the five-member committee, except the suggestion that the central forces from the police state should take over the temple’s security.
The committee of experts is lead by CV Ananda Bose, the director general of India’s National Museum.
She told the BBC, “The court felt that the current security provided by the state government was satisfactory”
The committee, which includes Hindu priests, performed a ritual to ask divine permission to inspect the vault, two months ago.
The move came after worshippers argued that opening the vault would anger God.
