269 police and forest officials have been convicted of torturing and raping more than 100 low-caste Dalits during a 1992 raid.
The court in southern India convicted the officials, who went to the village of Vachathiin Tamil Nadu to look for sandalwood smuggled into the area.
Over the two days, they raped 18 tribal women, physically abused more than 100 Dalits and looted homes and cattle.
17 of the officials were found guilty of rape, while the rest were convicted of “atrocities against Dalits.”
269 were convicted altogether and nearly 100 of them were policemen.
