Crisis is now offering specialist support for homeless people in the city of Coventry and kicked off its newest project with a football tournament.

The national charity for single homeless people already operates in eight regions across the UK, including Birmingham. Crisis takes education, employment and advice services directly into hostels and day centres for homeless people.

Amongst the range of activities on offer will be sporting opportunities, and Crisis hosted a football tournament where different hostels were invited to enter teams.

Crisis chief executive Leslie Morphy said:

“Losing your home is a devastating experience, people have often hit rock bottom and need time and support to get back on their feet. One way to help people get their confidence back is through sport and exercise.

“Crisis will offer a wide range of education and creative classes and workshops in different venues across the city.

“Crisis is extending its reach into Coventry and later on more places across Warwickshire after four years of working in Birmingham, where last year almost 200 people gained an educational qualification and 50 people secured a job with our support.”

The tournament took place at the Allan Higgs Centre on Thursday 22 August and was attended by local football legend David Busst who presented the tournament trophies.
