For the first-time ever gender salary discrepancies in the UK are exposed.

More than atleast 10,000 large companies have provided details of their gender pay gap and over three-quarters of them are paying men more than women.

However, apart from that headline fact, the statistics also contain a wealth of other information.

Firstly, less than one out of seven companies pay women more than men. Most companies that are reputable and are generally the more established ones would fall into the six out of seven companies that pay men more than women.

Around 80% of the 10,000 companies show that 78% have a salary discrepancy between the genders with only 8% have equal salaries between the genders.

Secondly, the male workers would be holding jobs at the higher-paying end. The mere pay gap between genders cannot clearly show that women are paid less for symmetrical work responsibilities. However, the details reveal that males take up more of the positions that are higher in the hierarchy compared to females.

It was reported that only one-third of companies have women holding positions that pays at the higher-end of the spectrum.

More statistics from Ryanair shows that only 3% are women out of 554 pilots who receive high salaries, while the majority of lower paying jobs such as cabin crew make-up are females.

Thirdly, apart from the fixed salaries, bonuses awarded to men are higher than women as well.

Barclays Bank bonus statistics show that for every £1 that men are given, women only earn 65p. Aberdeen Asset Managers bonus statistics show that for every £1 that men are given, women only earn 32p. HSBC and Lloyd’s bonus statistics show that for every £1 that men are given, women only earn 39p.

Fourthly, there is no sector in the UK that pays women more than man at the moment. Although different sectors have varying salary gaps between the genders, all sectors are found to be paying men more than women.
