Paris St-Germain’s Champions League, excursions may have taken a huge setback following the news, star attraction & key player Neymar’s fresh injury crisis.

The Brazilian ace suffered fractured metatarsal and a sprained ankle during Sunday’s French Ligue 1; win over arch-rival Marseille in ‘Le Classique’.  The world’s most expensive player in history was injured, while chasing Marseille forward Bouna Sarr, with Neymar being seen fighting back tears as he was stretchered off near the end of the 3-0 win at the Parc-de-Princes.

The news is a bitter blow for PSG, who face Spanish giants & Champions League holders Real Madrid, in less than nine days – with the French capital club losing the first leg 3-1 in Madrid-. Neymar is now odds-on to miss to miss the Champions League last 16 second-leg tie at home to Real Madrid on March 6.

Ligue 1, leaders PSG confirmed on Monday (Feb 26), that Neymar had indeed suffered “a sprain of the right ankle with his misery compounded by a fracture of the fifth metatarsal” The club, however, refused to be drawn into the speculation surrounding a proposed return date.

Neymar, who joined PSG for €222 million (S$360 million) from Barcelona in the summer transfer window, posted a picture of his heavily bandaged ankle on social media site Instagram, earlier on Monday (26/02/18). The fee paid ensured Neymar became the costliest signing in football history, with the media furore surrounding his move then reaching pitch fever.

The Brazilian has netted 28 times and laid on 16 assists for his PSG compatriots this season, although he was heavily maligned for an underwhelming display against Real at the Bernabeu a fortnight ago.
