A man has appeared in court today charged in connection with an alleged hit-and-run which has left a teenager fighting for her life.

Claudia Visser, aged 15, was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle as she crossed Grange Lane, Pedmore, Stourbridge.

The teenager, of Chaffinch Road, was taken to Russells Hall Hospital following the incident last Thursday.

She was later transferred to Birmingham Children’s Hospital and is believed to have suffered two broken legs, bleeding on the brain, a fractured skull and internal injuries.

She remains in a critical but stable condition today.

Car valeter Adnan Ajram, 24 from Careless Green, Lye, Stourbridge was arrested and later charged over the incident.

He faces charges of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop, being unfit to drive through drink or drugs and other driving offences.

Ajram appeared before Dudley Magistrates’ Court today and will be back in the dock at Wolverhampton Crown Court on March 14.
