A man has been charged over the theft of a sculpture from a Birmingham art gallery.

Mark Roberts, aged 41, of Mount Pleasant Court, Small Heath was charged this evening (Friday, 19 September) with stealing the piece, which was removed from Castle Fine Art Gallery on 17 August.

He was arrested earlier today at his home address and has now been remanded into custody. Roberts is due to appear before Birmingham Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Saturday, 20 September).

The stolen artwork − which has since been returned to the gallery – is a limited edition sculpture by Nic Joly commemorating WWI, sales of which are raising money for the Royal British Legion. The sculpture in question has now been sold.
