Gharana, a specialist housing association that provides homes and support to older people, particularly people from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities, has announced today that it is joining one of the largest housing and social care organisations in the Midlands.

The relationship will see Gharana Housing Association join the Accord Group and will ensure the continued provision of high quality and culturally appropriate care for the existing residents at Gharana’s two sheltered housing schemes for elderly people.

Dr Chris Handy, Chief Executive at the Accord Group, said: “We are delighted to welcome Gharana Housing Association, its staff and customers to the Accord Group. Gharana does excellent work supporting Guajarati communities in the East Midlands and we want to help them expand and develop their role in this. Furthermore, because of our existing expertise within the Accord Group around care for Asian elders, it was felt appropriate that Gharana Housing Association would be a credible partner for us.

“We would like to officially welcome staff and customers from Gharana to the Accord Group and we are very much looking forward to working together to continue to deliver high quality housing services.”
Raj Shah, Chair at Gharana Housing Association, said: “We are pleased to begin working with the Accord Group. The strengths and abilities of the two organisations complement each other well. We both are excellent care and housing providers, and that, along with our community focus means we can build even stronger communities in the future.”

Established in 1989, Gharana Housing Association provides specialist housing and support to older people, particularly people from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities.
Gharana Housing Association will retain its own name, Board and local operating bases with no job losses. For more information about the Accord Group, visit www.accordgroup.org.uk.
