Four people have been arrested after a man was attacked and left critically injured in West Bromwich early this morning (6 Sept).

Police were called to Jervoise Lane, Stone Cross at around 00.50am on Saturday to a report that a man was collapsed in the street, having been assaulted.

Officers arrived a short time later to discover a man, aged in his 30s, with a serious head injury. A second man, also in his 30s, was taken to hospital having been assaulted.

The men were rushed to hospital where one remains in a critical condition. His friend’s injuries were not as serious and he was discharged following treatment.

DC Pete Miller from Force CID in Smethwick is investigating the attack. He said: “The men appear to have been approached while walking home along Jervoise Lane.

“We believe that the offenders may well have been attempting to rob them but ran off without anything.

“The man’s injuries are quite serious and he is in hospital in a critical condition at this time.
“We need to hear from anyone who was in the area and may have seen the attack or people running away from the scene.”

Police detained four men, aged 17, 18, 19 and 20, a short distance away moments after the attack.

They were all arrested on suspicion of assault and remain in police custody this afternoon.

Anyone with information should call Force CID in Smethwick by dialling 101 or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
