Modern technology shows no boundaries in making things simpler, as aSouthamptonstudent married his fiancé using a viral video.

Syed Islam, who is studying in the city, was living 3,500 miles apart from Monira Chowdhury, fromPennsylvaniainAmerica.

The pair, aged 28, had only met face-to-face for ten minutes as children, but kept in contact over the years through networking website Skype.

Mr Islam and his bride finally married in September via video link, dressed in traditional outfits and surrounded by friends and family.

More than 100 days later, the couple finally met atHeathrowAirport.

The groom, who studies business administration atSolentUniversity, told reporters, “I know the marriage was unusual but people can share their lives through technology.”

The newly named Mrs Islam, who was introduced to her husband by his mother, added, “He was exactly how I expected him to be – he’s a very good person and we’re getting on very well.”

They hope to have a party inBangladesh, where Mr Islam originates from, next year where they will celebrate with friends and family.
