A luxury wedding caterer has pledged to gift a luxury wedding to a couple in need of financial help to realise their big day.

Itihaas, based in Birmingham, has joined forces with Asian Bride magazine, Hotel La Tour, and Luxury Executive Travel to offer the unique prize.

With Asian weddings now regularly passing the £30,000 mark, families are often forced to incur substantial debt in order to deliver a memorable occasion.

The company has seen at first hand the pressure that weddings can create in the Asian community, and invites applicants to share their stories anonymously.

Raj Rana, owner and founder of Itihaas, said:

“We’ve seen families remortgage their homes, raid emergency savings, and make serious sacrifices just in order to keep up with the Johals.

“Another common situation is that couples simply have to hang on for months and even years, without the means for a lavish wedding and impatient to start their life together. Stuck in limbo.”

Itihaas has already received nearly 100 applications from young people in similar predicaments.

A panel of judges, including Raj Rana and the editor of Asian Bride magazine, will select the couple they feel is most deserving. A difficult decision, as Mr Rana commented:

“It will be heartbreaking to have to turn away so many, but we wanted to give this opportunity to at least one bride and groom.

“Who knows, in future we may have the means to run this again, and make another couple’s dreams come true.”
