Boxing legend Amir Khan, returned to the ring after two years, with a vicious knockout of Canadian fighter, Phil Lo Greco, by knocking him down twice in less than 39 seconds.
Khan’s blistering fists did all of the talking, as they say in boxing, speed kills, and we all know that Khan’s hand speed always has been dangerous in early fights.
However, some perspective has to be given, as Lo Greco is not an elite fighter, even though he went the distance with former world champion Shawn Porter.
Khan was happy to have a sold-out arena. Khan stated that: “It’s been two years but I have not lost anything. The hunger is still there; my body just needed that break.”
Although he was in the ring for a short time only, Khan had shown no signs of fear or rust as he pounced on Lo Greco from the opening seconds of the fight. A stiff right hand had sent Lo Greco to the ground in around 15-17 seconds into the fight. However, Lo Greco still got back up onto his feet, even though he looked a little shaken.
A few seconds later, a left uppercut and right cross sent Lo Greco barrelling into the ropes and onto the ground. Khan’s fans went crazy as the referee waved off the bout and a jubilant Khan leaped around the ring in celebration.
The entire arena erupted at Khan’s triumph, including British rival Kell Brook. Khan added that: “It’s all banter, I respect Kell. It’s a fight that can happen down the line. The option is there; we’ll sit with Eddie Hearn and discuss it next week. The main thing is I’m back.”
