With his Avant-garde ideas, Henry Kissinger has stormed the world again with his take on the current situation around the globe. Reiterating the ideas presented in his 2014 book “World Order”, Kissinger has lashed out The US and other measures taken by European nations to fight against the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Henry Kissinger is an American politician, diplomat, and geopolitical consultant who served as United States Secretary of State and National Security Advisor under the presidential administrations of Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford. Among the works that first brought him to academic acclaim was “A World Restored,” his 1950s book about how the greatest diplomats of Europe met at the Congress of Vienna to restore order to a continent shattered by the Napoleonic Wars.
He feels that the whole world and prominently the Nation and State leaders should prepare to be a part of the new world order, meanwhile fighting against the coronavirus outbreak; to sustain the world in the future and to prevent a possible disruption. He highlights his opinion posted on the WSJ(Wall Street Journal) by emphasizing that a war – created by situations like COVID-19 Pandemic cannot be won on “walled frontiers”, which the whole world has returned to. He calls the concept of the walled city an “anachronism,” a “legend.” He believes in a free flow of ideas and support. Conveying dual anatomy in his blog he believes that nations like the USA and others should keep a broader perspective in mind while following a rescue plan. He portrays the inefficiency and hypocrisy of the EU, for pressuring countries to not close their borders when the coronavirus outbreak was at the developing stage. If anything, one of the reasons Italy, Spain, and France were hit so hard by coronavirus was the EU’s dysfunctional insistence on open borders amid the pandemic – says Kissinger.
“If we cannot do both in tandem, we will face the worst of each.”
Targeting the orthodox and nationalist steps and plans of America, Kissinger says that it should not only focus on reviving its economy but also move towards creating a global environment. And when the EU nations were struck badly by the pandemic they unilaterally shut borders and hoarded vital medical gear, leaving people stranded far from home, grocery stores struggling to stock shelves and hospitals desperate to save critically ill patients.”When Italy and Spain, reeling from some of the world’s most deadly outbreaks, urged their richer and healthier Northern neighbors to help, Dutch politicians brushed off the appeals as new signs of southerners’ mismanagement.”
After some scathing remarks, Kissinger says that time has come for the revival and 2.0 version of the marshall plan(The Marshall Plan, also known as the European Recovery Program, was a U.S. program providing aid to Western Europe following the devastation of World War II) or the Manhattan Project. He calls upon the United States to safeguard the principles of the liberal world order and the world’s democracies to preserve and support their Enlightenment values
the “purpose of the legitimate state is to provide for the fundamental needs of the people: security, order, economic well-being, and justice,” those principles collapsed long ago – he writes.
If told in layman’s language, the new order should be of cooperative and unanimous struggle and fight against the closed doors of the unknown enemy. A slip out for personal gains and freedom may end up devastating ourselves.
