“We are reaching the limits of our patience here”, US Defence Secretary, Leon Panetta.

(By Maesam Khan): US Defence secretary, Leon Panetta, warned that US is loosing patience for Pakistan over alleged safe heavens for Taliban Militants. On his trip to Kabul, he said that Pakistan must act against the Haqqani militant network which attacks NATO Troops based in Afghanistan. It is stated that Washington has urged Islamabad for many years to deal severely with the militants based in Tribal areas. “It is difficult to achieve peace in Afghanistan as long as there is safe haven for terrorists in Pakistan”, Mr Panetta said. Government of Pakistan has rejected this statement that Pakistan is providing safe heavens to Taliban Militants. Relations between Washington and Islamabad have become increasingly strained after the unilateral US operation in Pakistan to kill Osama bin Laden in May 2011. On the other side, US continuous Drone Attacks on Pakistan tribal areas, which is making the condition more critical to be tolerated by Pakistani nation as so many civilians are also becoming the victim of Drone Attacks. Pakistan has warned US to avoid such Drone attacks that cause killing of innocent civilians in tribal areas, but now these attacks are getting more innocent lives rather than targeting terrorist. This is causing political instability in the region and is a big threat to the civilian population in Pakistan. Pakistan is already playing a key role in ‘War on Terror’ along with USA and other vital forces indulged in it. Understanding the geographical and political scenario, it is expected from US and the allied forces not to release such statements that create panic or sense of insecurity among the nations.
