Namira Salim has got the honor to be the first Pakistani woman to travel to Space after she was short listed among 100 out of 44000 space tourists by the World’s first commercial space liner Virgin Galactic.. Born in 1975 in Karachi, Namaira is also the first Pakistani woman to reach North and South Poles. She is also the first Asian to Skydive Everest as part of the ‘First Everest Skydive 2008’.  Not only did a select few dive from an altitude above Mount Everest, 29,500 feet, she also made history as the first jumpers ever to skydive from the roof of the world. ‘I always told my cousins and friends I would grow up to become an astronaut in times when private space travel was unheard of in the Eighties. Then when my news of the space trip with Richard broke, my cousins called me to remind me of what I’d said’, says Namira talking to the National. Namira has said she hopes her achievements are an inspiration for Pakistani women. Although she is currently based in Paris, she is a permanent resident of and has spent much of her life in Dubai.
