Demand for blue sapphires has risen since the Royal wedding was broadcast in April of this year, according to Sri Lankan gemstone dealers.

The auspicious day saw Prince William marry Kate Middleton in Westminster Abbey.

Dealers say that the diamond in the bride’s engagement ring, which was previous worn by Princess Diana, originally came fromSri Lanka.

Sri Lankan gem exports have risen 35% over the past year, becoming worth more than $48 million.

A dealer at the 21st annual Gem and Jewellery exhibition inColombo told the BBC that the royal wedding has made sapphires very popular.

There has been a large rush to his shops and many of his customers are opting for the blue rock.

“It’s something great that she’s wearing a Ceylon Sapphire. That brings a lot of value to the stone and it’s a prestige to our country as well.” Sinan Salahudeen told the broadcaster.

Apparently Prince Charles will maybe make Buckingham Palace a museum if he gets to be king. Perhaps he should just put himself and the rest of the monarchy in a museum, that’s where they all belong.
