Birmingham hosted the first ever sell out Desi Moves dance competition on the evening of Friday 18th May 2012 at the prestigious Town Hall, Birmingham hosted by our very own Desi boys Love Bollywood BBC Asian Network presenter’s Raj & Pablo.

Desi Moves has been recognised as the premier talent event where Ankhile Putt Punjab De, Dance-Lyf, Haripa Dance Group, WDC, Hina Dancers and Kuntals Dance Company battled it out to showcase their talent and skills to an expert celebrity judging panel consisting of Honey of Honey’s Bollywood Dance Academy, Foji Gill , Toffee of Sticky Toffee Dance and surprise judge Karan Pangali artistic director of KSPARK Entertainments.

The evening started with a surprise breath taking dynamic opening performance by Global dancing sensation Karan Pangali and his stunning KSPARK dancers who catapulted to fame as the sole UK representative to make the final of Bollywood’s Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Just Dance’ competition, entertainment and music at its best by Capital FM’s Sacha Brooks and Desi Boy Chana, with Bhangra maestro Foji Gill working his magic on the audience who were all on their feet flash mobbing to Pumbeeri.

Ankhile Putt Punjab De went to claim the title of Best Desi Movers 2012, claiming the cash prize of £1000, opportunity to perform at the Sandwell & Birmingham Mela 2012 in front of a 50k plus audience and that ultimate prize the Desi Moves 2012 trophy.

Desi Moves is part of Dancing for the Games, which is inspired by London 2012 and part of the Cultural Olympiad in the West Midlands. It has been funded by Legacy Trust UK, which is creating a lasting impact from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games by funding ideas and local talent to inspire creativity across the UK, as well as Arts Council England and Advantage West Midlands.

Mandeep & Gurpreet project directors commented, “It was a great night, where the 2012 Desi Moves dance championships attracted the wealth of talent out there to create a phenomenal showcase. Seeing all ages, races and our community coming together and dropping some Bhangra steps with Foji Gill was the highlight of the evening. Get ready 2013 Desi Moves is going to be bigger and better!”
