Screen heroes and heroines were honoured at the Eighteenth National Media Network Movie and TV award.

Vidya Balan was awarded as best actress on the 21st January, for her performance as Bollywood bad-girl Silk Smitha in controversial hit The Dirty Picture, whiles the film itself won ‘best picture.’

The Dirty Picture, which follows the life of the cigarette-smoking and cleavage busting starlet, dominated the grand event this month, as the producer of the film was also be adjudged.

Ajay Devgn was named as best actor for his role in Singham and Farhan Akhtar was given the gong for best director for Don 2 – The King is Back.

But no award ceremony would be complete without a statue for a veteran who has been in the industry for decades and this year, Mission Impossible star Anil Kapoor was hailed as ‘hero of all time.’

The event was instituted by the National Media Network and Akhil Bharatiya Swatantra Patrakar Avom Lekhak Sangh, which is an association of writers and freelance journalists.
