Prepare to be transported to a world of rhythmic musical delight and experience the ancient art of Tabla from a true master, as player, composer, and The Drum’s Resident Artist Mendi Mohinder Singh brings us his ground-breaking new work in United Rhythms on Sat 20 Sep at 7:30pm.

Birmingham born and classically trained, Mendi Mohinder Singh is a musical visionary with an amazing international reputation. A disciple of the legendary master Ajit Singh Mutlashi, Mendi’s music and artistic vision reflect his Birmingham upbringing, inspired by the city’s diverse musical landscape and fusion of Eastern and Western cultures. Playing with artists as diverse as sitar master Pandit Shalil Shankar and singer-songwriter Peter Gabriel, Mendi has toured the world from Europe to South America delighting audience of thousands with his beautiful compositions.
As part of our 20th Anniversary Celebrations, The Drum is proud to present United Rhythms, a ground-breaking spectacle of music and performance which fulfils Mendi’s artistic vision of creating the world’s first East-West percussion orchestra.
Performing three original compositions, Mendi will be accompanied by Birmingham Conservatoire’s Percussion Ensemble, drawing on African, South American, American and Arabic styles composed within a Western classical context. Joining him will be Handpan player Samantha Archer, followed by a collaborative choreographed martial arts performance from Seventh Dan Samurai expert Fay Goodman.
United Rhythms is a true union of Eastern and Western cultural influences, joining both hemispheres in an entertaining and uplifting rhythmical spectacle infused with joy and spirituality, uniting people through a universal language.
