The Oscars are only a corner away and already we are buzzing about who will occupy the short list in each category in hopes of grabbing a copy of that icon gold statue.

Luckily, there is already news circulating in the soundtrack category and Lady Gaga is in the running to be nominated.

The Marry the Night singer’s duet with Elton John has been named on the Oscar’s 2012 list for the Best Song category.

They were added in the list of 39 sings tipped for a possible nomination, with their track for Pixar film Gnomeo and Juliet, ‘Hello Hello’

Elton John’s solo effort, Love Builds a Garden, for the same film was also acknowledged, while Mary J Blige was given the green light for Living Proof, the soundtrack that gave The Help a soulful kick.

Voting starts on 5th January and the top five songs with the highest votes will be announced live on 24th January at 5.30am at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theatre.

However, only five will make the shortlist in the category and if none of the songs receives enough votes from the members of the Academy, there may not be a category at all.
