Vidhu Vinod Chopra – Writer, Producer & Director
Q: What is ‘Broken Horses’ about?
A:Broken Horses is a thriller about the bonds of brotherhood, the laws of loyalty, and the futility of violence. About the relationship between two brothers – a concert-level violinist and a hired mercenary – and is set against the drug war in the turbulent American-Mexican border. About how wrong choices can destroy lives and everything one loves.
Q: Will we ever see a desi version of ‘Broken Horses’?
A:I’d like to make Broken Horses as a Hindi movie with Indian actors – it’s too early to get into details. But it is definitely in my future plans.
Q: What’s your recipe for a successful movie?
A:You have to dedicate two-three years on the script…then, the pre-production, shooting, post production hazards…it requires lots of hard work and dedication.
Q: Do you still get nervous before the release of your films?
A:Rajkumar Hirani and I, in fact, everyone who works with our production house (Vinod Chopra Films) are trained in making films within budget. We make good films because we make films within our budget. So we don’t get panicked thinking about the fate of the films. By God’s grace most of our films do really well.
María Valverde–Lead actress
Q:What was it about ‘Broken Horses’ that caught your attention?
A:The script. When I started reading it I couldn’t stop. I loved every single sentence and every single scene.I also loved the fact that it has darkness to it. It’s not all just happiness and joy; it shows real decisions and real consequences.
Q: Did you enjoy working with your co-stars?
A:Absolutely loved it! Everyone has very nice and friendly. I was afraid there might be some issues because every single one of us is so different but we’ve got on great.
Q:Do you have a role model?
A:I have to say it is Kate Winslet. She is absolutely amazing, as a woman and as an actress. I want to be just like her. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is one of my favourite films
Q: What type of films would to like to do in the future?
A:I would like to do more English films, I know that I will always be the ‘Latin girl’, but I think I am ready for Hollywood.
Q: What do you usually do when you’re back home, in Madrid?
A:I absolutely love Madrid! If I will ever have to move – it will be for work. Madrid is my city, my home. I love hanging out with my family and friends, just the usual stuff.
Anton Yelchin – Lead actor
Q: You’re not just a great actor, but a musician too. Tell us about it.
A:Oh it’s just a hobby for me. I always loved playing my guitar and making music, I even had a punk band with my friends. I feel like nowadays people just call themselves musicians even though they’re really not.
Q:What inspired you to be an actor?
A:Both of my parents are athletes and I wasn’t very good at it. Then I wanted to be a scientist but that didn’t work because I set our bathroom on fire, then I wanted to be a basketball player but im not very tall so that didn’t work out too. Finally my parents took me to acting class and even though I was really shy at first, I loved every single minute of being there.
Vincent D’Onofrio – Actor
Q:You have played a lot of big and recognizable roles. Do you think people get intimidated when they see you?
A:I don’t think they’re intimidated. Usually they get really excited – they ask for an autograph or to take a picture. And it’s exciting for me too.
Q: How hard is it for you to transform into yourself after acting?
A:Straight after the director says ‘cut’ I try to turn into myself. I think as get more experienced, it becomes easier and easier to leave work behind.
Q: How do you pick a particular role?
A:I always pick a role that scares me the most – of course, you have to like the story too, but I would never choose a role that doesn’t instill some kind of fear in me. If I’m reading the script and I start thinking that I might not be able to do it, then I will definitely go for it.
Q: What is your key to success as an actor?
A:I don’t think I have a ‘key to success’ – there’s nothing that I know that other actors don’t know. The only thing that separates us is experience.
Q: You have a lot of fans all around the world – Does their reaction or projections get to your head?
A:I absolutely love it. It’s just like the feeling you get when you’re in a play and you can feel the audience even before you stepped on the stage for the first time. It’s quite something.
