image3Every woman loves a taste of glamour and couture. As Chanel famously quoted: “A girl should be two things; classy and fabulous.” One woman who has certainly followed by this motto has landed herself the ultimate role of working in partnership with “For the Stars Fashion House ” at a pre-Oscars event on Saturday 14th February 2015.

British Asian entrepreneur, Lady K aka Savita Kaye has been rubbing shoulders with some of Hollywood’s finest following the re-branding of her fashion House – House of iKons .

The ethos behind the ‘House of iKons ’ is to bring the World of Fashion under one roof for any designer from around the world to exhibit anywhere around the world and be given a platform to media, press, buyers, clients.

Before jetting off to LA, Asian World had the opportunity to speak with the fashion expert to find out what it’s like to be a part of such a prestigious event and more importantly, what it means for a woman of south Asian origin to be involved in such a mainstream event.

From the offset, Lady K commanded confidence and enthusiasm when speaking about her work; a trait certainly needed for a career such as this. But I wanted to know what her inspiration was behind House of iKons . She explained it was “to help emerging and unknown designer’s; to give them a worldwide platform and support before, during and after a fashion event. There was a big gap in market that most fashion Houses do not provide support to emerging designers.”

Lady K had an overwhelming love for her design work, stating: “I always had an eye for fashion. But attending shows and co -coordinating them for other organisers carved out of this niche.” Anyone can organise a fashion show, but Lady K explains its takes something more to transform it into a runway show fit for the elite. “Their originality. Designers are emotive. Their collections derive from their emotions and the creativity.”

Lady K has certainly made her name known amongst Hollywood, as her designers have worked with the likes of Nicole Kidman, Katy Perry and Beyonce. Being involved in the pre-show is certainly a step-forward for the south Asian community. But what does it mean to Lady K? “It’s something that has not been done before especially by a British Asian woman. It’s a great honour for me but most importantly I can put my designers in this elite circle.”

Becoming as successful as Lady K takes time and dedication. It also requires inspiration from some of the greats. For Lady K, her muse lies within the likes of, “Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and Alexandra McQueen. Under House of iKons all my Designer’s are my inspiration.”

As for designing, Lady K explained how she would love to design for Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone (wouldn’t we all!).

Lady K was particularly careful about advice for young designers who are also trying to break into the design world. She suggested: “Do not just focus on bridal… Embrace your creativity and design from the heart and soul.” She expressed how there is a place for south Asian designers in Hollywood fashion and how “many designers based in India are breaking into Hollywood. Again as mentioned designers should embrace their creativity and not just focus on bridal.”

With designs as beautiful as the ones Lady K showcases, it’s pertinent to dream big to get big. Her plans for the future follow this same logic. “I am looking into markets such as Philippines and Singapore which I will be visiting later this year. There are talks of House of iKons Moscow and House of iKons Mumbai.

I will be looking into exhibiting my Designer’s collections with big department stores such as Harrods and Selfridges. This is the plan for 2016… And look at shows in every major city in the world to discover and show the world “uncut diamonds for the world to see them shine”.”
