A young 23 yr old Muslim entrepreneur has set up her own business in making skin care products to treat various skin disorders. Selina, talks about her own personal experiences, how she came across the products which led to her to opening up her own business venture.
I had acne, I had tried several products to help with my skin conditions, products such as Clearasil, freedom gel but nothing seemed to work. I had also been to seen the doctor, he had given prescription drugs to treat this hormonal problem.
Alongside, these products, I also used to buy organic products for myself to treat this skin condition, but these products were very expensive to purchase. These products were not very effective and made by condition worse once I had stopped using these products.
I therefore took the decision into my own hands and started to do my own research into various products treating acne, eczema, psoriasis, stretch marks and scarring. I bought some ingredients online, and made my first hand bar soap at home using scales and various other cooking equipments. I thought by buying concentrated pure organic ingredients will achieve better results rather than over the counter products or synthetic products.
I learnt how to make my first hand bar soap which was a bit deformed. I tested the soap on myself and it worked instantly. The results were amazing, that was the start of my business, I initially made a batch of 10 soaps and tried it on my family and friends, they wanted more products, through recommendations and word of mouth publicity the demand for my products went up and I was struggling to meet the demand. Eventually I produced more soaps to treat other types of skin conditions and got products tested and certified.
Due to the popular demand, I decided to diversify my product range and created various lotions and creams to add to my existing product range. In order to market and promote my products, I have been attending various ladies nights and chaand raat events.
Organic handmade soaps were a short and sweet concept, it has been running for a year, all of my products are 99% natural, 100% vegan and halal. I now offer various packages to my clients such as luxury pampers gifts for honeymoon couples, hospital packages, baby showers and hen nights. In the future, I hope to introduce other product ranges such as lip balms, make up, serums and bath salts.
