As the championship has drawn to a close, it’s been a very long and painful experience as a villa it has been a woeful season full of inconsistent performances, more manager switches and dreadful signings. Finishing 13th in the championship is unthinkable for any Villa fan and the amount we spent in the summer we should of walked the championship if not at least finish in the play off places.
At the start of the season I was convinced that we had all the right tools to compete for promotion back to the premier league, new, successful manager in Roberto Di Matteo, new signings and new owner, but the only positive out of those things has been our new owner Dr Tony Xia who has invested in the club and actually shows and interest in the side, other than the previous fraud Randy Lerner. Xia has done his bit, gave Di Matteo a very, very good budget to spend and still he managed to only win 1 game in 12.
With Bruce leading us into the 2017-18 campaign he needs to be very busy in the summer and he needs to get rid of a few passengers as well as bring a few names in. A lot of fans have been very critical of Bruce since his appointment, but we need stability in our club we have not had stability since Martin O’Neill left back in 2010, besides I believe the criticism Bruce has received is extremely harsh, however, if we have anything of the same as this season then he has to go and I will judge his performance within the first 3 months of the 2017-18 season.
The player did not help this season either a couple of star performers, but a lot more passengers. I was so excited to see how our local boys looked in the championship like Gary Gardner, Jack Grealish and Gabby Agbonlahor. But all 3 of them to a man have been shocking, Gabby still fat scored against blues but he is not good enough anymore, Jack Grealish needs to wake up and realise he isn’t bigger than the club and that his attitude is not good enough and the less said about Gary Gardner this season the better.
For me at worst next season is a play off place for Villa, we must push on and improve drastically if we are to return to the big time or we will simply turn into Leeds and be stuck in the championship for years.
