Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen has signed up to play in the Pakistan Super League for next year.
Pietersen, denied a recall by England earlier this year, is virtually a full-time T20 player now, plying his trade in Australia, India, the West Indies, England and now Pakistan.
Speaking via a video message played during the ceremony, the 35-year-old said: “Absolutely buzzing to be a part of the Pakistani Mela coming up in February. I can’t wait to get it started.
“It looks like it is going to be a wonderful competition. Lots of fun, lots of sixes, lots of wickets, typical T20 stuff. I am really excited to be a part of this wonderful tournament.”
The tournament will be played from February 4-24, though the venues are still to be confirmed.
The UAE has been mooted as a potential destination.
Chris Gayle, Angelo Mathews, Lasith Malinga, Dwayne Bravo are also reported to have signed up to play in the competition.
Other players believed to be also involved are Pitersen’s fellow Englishmen Ravi Bopara, Luke Wright, Tim Bresnan and Chris Jordan.
