In the sport of badminton, Saina and Sindhu are India’s female dynamic duos. They are persistent and are striving for the gold this coming Commonwealth Games.

Saina is a young and talented badminton player. However, she has sustained several bouts of major injuries in the span of her sports career. From uncooperative healing of her blisters with groin injuries from the Australian Open Super Series in 2014, which withheld her from participating in the Glasgow edition to suffering from Achilles tendonitis. However, after these injuries, Saina arose and won the Australian Open. The most recent injury that she dealt with sent her to the operating theatre after the Rio Olympics Games where she had an intra-articular right knee injury that needed to be fixed.

This aspiring young rising star went through many setbacks, including the physical injuries which forced her to rest after her win of a bronze medal during the 2012 London Olympics. At the brink of giving up in 2014, Saina found the motivation to keep pressing on with the help of Vimal Kumar in Bangalore after the Uber Cup. Her performance accelerated and resulted in new wins at the 2014 China Open and 2015 India Open. Also, Saina worked her way all the way up to the final at the All England and World Championships in 2015 where she was titled World Number 1.

Saina attributed her achievements to “excellent coaches”, as quoted by her. To name a few, Mohammed Arif, Goverdhan Reddy, Vimal Kumar, Puella Gopichand and other foreign coaches and staff.

Together with Sindhu, who won the bronze medal in the Glasgow edition where she replaced Saina because of her injuries and, a silver medal in the Rio Olympics in 2016, are set to win big for their country India.
