The 2012 Olympics will be kicking off in London in a few months. What? You know that already? Ok fair enough well let me give you a few names that you may not have already heard of that are worth looking out for at this summer’s event.
Vijender Singh
Here’s a guy that knows how to pack a punch, or at least I certainly hope he knows as he’ll be competing in the Boxing this summer. At the 2008 games he became the first Indian Boxer to win an Olympic medal when his punches fought him to bronze. He’ll be hoping for even better this summer.
Parupalli Kashyap
Fancy a game of badminton? Parupalli Kashyap does. Several games in fact. And he’ll be hoping to win them all when he represents India in August. After a bronze at the 2010 Commonwealth games Kashyap will fancy his chances in London.
Waseem Ahmad
Football played with a small ball and long sticks is called Hockey, and it’s not an easy game. Unless you’re Waseem Ahmad, which is exactly who Waseem Ahmad is. He’s regarded as the best Hockey player in the world and he’s also Pakistan’s most capped player in the sport ever. He’s won Olympic medals with the Pakistan team before and he’ll be hoping to do it again.
Krishna Poonia
Lobbing arbitrary objects around the town centre may land you an anti-social behaviour order but do it in front of a crowd at this summer’s Olympics and it could land you a gold medal. That’s exactly what Krishna Poonia achieved when she won the Discus Throw competition for India at the 2010 Commonwealth games. Can she replicate that accolade this summer?
Virdhawal Khade
Talk about going for a quick dip this summer, how does 50 metres in 22.58 seconds sound? That’s just one of twenty year old Indian swimmer Virdhawal Khade’s impressive timings in the pool. Incredibly, this guy makes the speedos, goggles and swimming cap combination look cool and he’ll be fishing for a gold medal this summer.
