The Consulate of Pakistan, Birmingham, in partnership with Wakefield based humanitarian charity Penny Appeal, has organised Azadi Ben Nevis Climb, taking place on 26 and 27 August, just one of many events planned to commemorate the 70th Independence Day.
“We have organised this climbing expedition to celebrate 70 years of Pakistan’s Independence, and this is a fantastic opportunity for you to get directly involved in helping fellow Pakistanis back home,” said Syed Ahmed Maroof, Consul General of Pakistan.
It is hoped seventy intrepid people will set off, together with Penny Appeal Fundraising Manager Haroon Mota, to climb the mountain which is 1,345 meters above sea level and the highest mountain in the British Isles. Located in Scotland, close to the town of Fort William, Ben Nevis attracts a large number of climbers and mountaineers from around the world annually.
Joining the team will be the Hon Lord Lieutenant of the West Midlands, Mr John Crabtree OBE and Deputy Lieutenant Nasir Awan. Would you like to take part? To secure a place, a booking fee is required of £50 immediately, followed by a commitment to raise a minimum of £300, that must be raised before the day of the trek.
“Penny Appeal’s Thirst Relief Project is installing wells in countries across Africa and Asia to give communities reliable access to clean water. This means they can drink, wash, make wudu, grow crops and water their animals safely,” said Fundraising Manager Haroon Mota. “This is why we’re calling on people to climb Ben Nevis to build a well.”
