It’s been a dismal start to the year for the football fans in Brum , as Aston Villa and Birmingham City have made pathetic starts to the year.
Blues are without a win in 10 games with their last victory coming against Ipswich Town back in December 13th. And what seemed like a way forward for the blues, just 24 hours following their last victory, they ludicrously sacked their manager and saviour Gary Rowett.
This left Blues fans distraught and confused as the side were sitting in 6th place and 3 points off 3rd placed Reading. So in came Gianfranco Zola just hours after the sacking of Rowett and it left bluenoses scratching their heads. Was this planned? Their owner called for calm and patience as Blues still eyed that all important play-off place. However since the appointment of Zola the Blues have been in free fall falling to 12th and winless in 8 league games and under their new boss , Birmingham are still seeking their first win of 2017.
Aston Villa on the other hand started their campaign off horrendously under Roberto Di Matteo who was then replaced by ex Blues boss Steve Bruce. Bruce started well after his appointment in October losing just 2 of 13 games up until January. Then things have suddenly gone wrong for the Villains. Winless in 6 games (5 in January) chairman Dr Xia splashed the cash on deadline day to repair and rebuild their squad, more so there abysmal midfield. Bringing in 8 signings in January and 3 of them coming on deadline day (31st January) it was a nightmare start for the signings after a 3-0 humbling from an average Brentford side. This loss also came on the 31st January.
With new faces for both sides, both sets of fans will be hoping for drastic improvements if they are to reach promotion to the premier league in the future.
