A famed drumming institute, whose music has featured in a number of Hollywood films, impressed the Princess Royal at an annual concert.
The Dhol Foundation, a team of drummers from West London, opened the 99th Royal Variety Performance, attended by guest of honour, Princess Anne.
The event was held at The Lowry Theatre in Salford Quays in Greater Manchester.
The bhangra group were the first Asian band to appear at the Royal Variety Performance, despite spearing at several festivals around the globe.
Leader Johnny Kalsi told BBC Asian Network that their “unique sound” is a fusion of traditional bhangra, dance beats and electronic music and that they were excited to appear in the show.
The dhol school was set up in 1989 by Johnny Kalsi, after several keen musicians asked him to be their teacher and over a decade later in 2001, their first album was released.
Their music have appeared in Hollywood films such as Gangs of New York and the Incredible Hulk and they have also collaborated with Peter Gabriel on the soundtrack to The Last Temptation of Christ.
They also opened the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in 2006.
The Royal Variety Performance was hosted by comedian Peter Kay and included performances from Chart successes Cee Lo Green and Nicole Scherzinger, as well as Britian’s Got Talent winner Jai Mc Dowell.
