Since its founding in 2009 in Birmingham, UK, The City of Knowledge Academy has offered a broad range of high quality educational programs, conferences, courses, consultation services, recreational activities and lectures delivered and led by some of the most renowned and inspiring community leaders such as Zaf (Pride Of Birmingham). By serving the community in various areas of life and addressing some of the most challenging issues of our time, the Academy has established a reputation as a pioneering centre of excellence providing service to all members of the community with a principal of ‘No Barriers’. The Academy takes pride in being able to support people who are blind, deaf and with various disabilities.
Awards Evening 2015
The Academy awarded some of its outstanding students for their performance in their studies and for engaging in social projects of refurbishing two youth clubs around the city. This took place at South and City college in Bordesley Green.
Joy, happiness and reflection are just a few words which could be used to describe the awe inspiring evening celebrating the success stories of Muslim youths across Birmingham. The City of Knowledge Academy were honoured to acknowledge and pay tribute to its students for their high level of achievements in which over 200 people attended and the night was hosted by Shaykh Mohammed Aslam (founder of City of Knowledge Academy) and Muhammad Asad Ansari, and was lit with inspirational stories and moments of heart filled emotions in the presence of Paul Morris (assistant principle of South and City College and many councillors from the labour party including Waseem Zaffar (MBE), Mariam Khan and Waheed Saleem (Chair of Lunar Society).
“The College was delighted to host and participate in the City of Knowledge Academy’s Annual Awards Event. It was a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements of so many young people and to acknowledge the excellent work the Academy does for the local communities of Birmingham. Councillor Waseem Zaffar MBE said:”City of Knowledge Academy working in partnership with SCCB are empowering the leaders of tomorrow. Not only do the children from a Muslim background receive religious education which promotes love, peace and harmony; they are able to participate in activities that support their roles within society as proud British citizens. I have witnessed firsthand how this project has supported disaffected young people across the city.”
Shaykh Aslam explained:“The Academy is thankful to Zaf pride of Birmingham in assisting it in creating a partnership and work relationship with South and City College and other organisations. His work is highly inspirational and beneficial to the community and motivates youths to choose the right path in life.”
Councillor Mariam Khan said: ” It was a fantastic event recognising the hard work put in by Sheikh Aslam, the teachers, parents and young people. It’s important to celebrate the achievements of the young people who have shown commitment at the academy. I felt privileged to be invited to the awards evening as it was a valuable experience to be a part of and commend South and City College for its dedication in supporting the community and the City of Knowledge Academy.”
Zaf-Community Liaison Officer South and City College concluded by saying: “It has been a pleasure working on various projects with the City of Knowledge Academy. Sheikh Aslam has done an amazing job and deserves a lot of credit in setting this up and this event highlighted all the positive steps they have taken over the years. Acknowledging young kids and recognising their achievements over the course of the year and changing so many young lives in the community. On a personal note, I felt honoured to be part of this awards ceremony and thank all the guests who accepted my invite to attend at our Bordesley Campus at South and City College.”
