Jaffar Raza, a member of a local community in Balsall Heath has recently set up a memorial event remembering the innocent civillians that were killed during the second world war bombings in 1940. Jaffar who founded the association, 40 years ago, a hugely popular member of the community and a president of Balsall Heath Park organised an event on Taunton Road, Balsall Heath, Birmingham whereby he invited the members of the Royal Navy, Royal Airforce, British Legion, Musical Band, local TV Channels such as Geo & Duniya TV and members of the General public from different interfaith groups to commemorate the losses of 20 innocent people who were killed that day in Carlton Cinema, Birmingham.

Jaffar Raza briefly spoke to Asian World and said “ The purpose of this memorial was to remember the people who died in Carlton Cinema, it was bombarded during the second world war, some people had shrapnel in their necks and stomach, alot of them got injured and later on died as result of their horrific injuries. I invited the whole community from different interfaith groups to pay their respects to the innocent lives. It was also the month of Muhraam an Islamic Month, Muslims could therefore relate to this event and occasion”.

Jaffar Raza was impressed by the number of people who turned up at the event as they were a number of stalls also set up at the event and everyone got involved and had a good time.
