It is fast becoming very interesting in the world of politics as we approach the General Election.
Recently, Business Secretary Vince Cable visited Birmingham with Lorely Burt the MP for Solihull to make sure the Midlands is getting its fair share of the regional growth fund.
Vince and Lorely also met with Asian businesses to discuss the issues affecting them including bank lending and visa restrictions. Vince has done a fantastic job in the last five years promoting growth and supporting small and medium businesses. In my opinion, he has been the best Business Minister for the past 20 years guiding us out of recession and boosting employment.
At the end of the month, I was asked to speak at an event on the awareness of mental health issues in relation to ethnic minorities.
The Liberal Democrats with Norman Lamb as Health Minister have led the way in improving mental health services. Mental health has been a taboo subject for far too long in Asian communities. Sadly mental health has been treated as a Cinderella service compared to physical health. Liberal Democrats in government have prioritised mental healthcare and have introduced a legal duty on the NHS to promote parity of esteem for mental health.
It is important that people who struggle with mental health issues are supported not only by health professionals but also by the wider community.
