Pakistani opposition politician Imran Khan has urged the UK to cut back on aid to flood-affected Pakistan, saying that it fuels corruption.

The cricketing legend told BBC Radio 4 that Pakistanis are in deeper poverty and that little of the money sent over has not reached them.

The UK plans to increase annual aid from £140m to £350m.

“If we don’t have aid, we will be forced to make reforms and stand on our own feet” Mr Khan told the interviewer.

The Leader of the Pakistani Movement for Justice party suggested that the donated money made governments even more corrupt and that by cutting aid, much needed reforms could then take place.

“Aid has been a curse forPakistan” he said, “Total aid is about $20bn (£13bn). This is not helpingPakistan.”

Mr Khan also said thatPakistanshould not accept aid from theUSeither.
