A talking budgie was returned to its Japanese owner after it told police officers her entire address.
The male bird, known as Piko-chan, flew from his owner’s home in the Sagamihara district of Yokohama and ended up in the city centre.
When it found its way to a hotel and rested in the shoulder of one of the guests.
The hotel then handed the bird to the police, who kept him in a cage at a nearby police station.
The bird did not speak until a few days later in the evening, reciting his owner’s full address, including house’s block and street number.
The police then returned the Piko-chan to his 64-year-old owner, who had once lost another budgie after it flew away and decided not to repeat the mistake by drumming her address into the bird in case it made the same adventurous escape.
“We had not expected his owner to be identified in this manner,” one of the officers said.
