Viceroy’s House star Hugh Bonneville joined director Gurinder Chadha and her family for a special ceremony at the Gurdwara Sri Singh Sabha in Hounslow yesterday, ahead of the release of the film. BAFTA, Golden Globe and Emmy award-nominated British actor Bonneville, famous for roles in Downtown Abbey and Paddington, leads the star cast in Chadha’s epic period drama Viceroy’s House, releasing nationwide this Friday 3rd March.
The film tells the true story of the final months of British rule in India and its release will coincide with the 70th Anniversary of the Independence of India and the founding of Pakistan.
Hugh Bonneville stars as Lord Mountbatten, the last Viceroy of India, whilst Gillian Anderson plays his wife, Edwina. Huma Qureshi, Manish Dayal and the late Om Puri also play pivotal roles in the film.
British Asian director Gurinder Chadha began her regional Q&A tour in Birmingham last week and continues with dates in London, Manchester, Leicester, Nottingham, Sheffield and Bradford this week.
