The world famous Ballet Giselle that took the stage at Birmingham’s Hippodrome between Wed 19 – Sat 22 Jun 2013, is a powerful love story with a twist, which had the audience starry eyed has great prevalence in many of Bollywoods greatest hit films, the story of a rich person falling in love with a poor beauty is a script used in film studios in India and with immense popularity.

The Ballet Giselle is set in the rolling hills of a vineyard near the Rhine River during the middle ages. Hilarion has been secretly in love with Giselle for quite some time and pays a visit to Giselle’s cottage to leave behind a bouquet of fresh flowers one early morning. Meanwhile, before dawn, the Duke of Silesia whose castle overlooks Giselle’s village made his way there. The Duke is a very handsome man who is to be married to Princess Bathilde.  He had laid eyes upon the beautiful Giselle several days before, and has decided to disguise himself as a peasant in order to see her more often, hoping to win her love. Along with his attendant, Wilfred, the Duke moves into a nearby cottage. So he as many characters of famous Bollywood films is playing a double role to win the heart of the woman he has fallen madly in love with.

Giselle who is none the wiser is immediately drawn to him and falls deeply in love. When Hilarion come back, he warns her not to trust the stranger, but she doesn’t listen. Giselle and Loys continue to dance in happiness; this part is a must for all Bollywood films and one of the most popular that lavish dance scenes and addictive music.

Saira Sheraz who went to watch Giselle on its opening night in Birmingham had never ever been to watch a ballet before, she said “I can’t believe the power and strength of the ballerinas, and how they can get their legs so high its ore inspiring,” Saira went on to say she had never watch a ballet before and it had been quite an experience.
